Dr. Ambrish Mithal is an esteemed medical professional who has made significant contributions in the field of endocrinology. He holds an M.B.B.S. degree from Kanpur University, which he obtained in 1980. He further pursued his education and earned an M.D. degree from Kanpur University in 1984. Dr. Mithal's passion for endocrinology led him to pursue a D.M. (Endocrinology) from AIIMS, New Delhi in 1987, where he became the first person to achieve this distinction in the field of endocrinology from AIIMS. With his 40 years of extensive knowledge and expertise, Dr. Mithal has held several notable positions throughout his career. From 2009 to 2019, he served as the Chairman and Head of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Medanta - The Medicity. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Consultant at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital from 1998 to 2009. Additionally, Dr. Mithal served as a faculty member in the field of endocrinology at Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow, from 1988 to 1998. Dr. Mithal's outstanding contributions and dedication to his profession have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In 2015, he was honored with the prestigious Padma Bhushan by the President of India, as well as the B.C. Roy Award given to him by the Medical Council of India. He has also received fellowships, including the Fogarty Fellowship at Harvard Medical School from 1993 to 1994 and the JICA Fellowship in Japan from 1996 to 1997. Dr. Mithal's notable achievements include receiving the Boy Frame Award from the American Society for Bone Mineral Research in 2004 and the President's Award from the International Osteoporosis Foundation in 2016. Dr. Ambrish Mithal's expertise extends to various professional organizations and societies. He is an active member of the Endocrine Society of India, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the Endocrine Society (US). He has also played a significant role in establishing the Indian Society for Bone and Mineral Research, where he served as the Founder-Secretary and later as the President. Dr. Mithal's contributions are widely recognized, as evidenced by his involvement in various committees and editorial boards, including the Apollo Medical Journal and the South Asian Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
