Prof. (Dr.) J M Hans graduated with a Gold Medal in MS ENT from the esteemed PGI Chandigarh. More than 3300 cochlear implants have been successfully operated on since he pioneered the minimal invasive technique for Cochlear implant surgery in India.He is the first ENT surgeon in India to have started the auditory brainstem implant in children. With over 40 years of experience, his mentoring has benefited numerous ENT surgeons from India and the SAARC nations. At the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, he was a professor and the head of the ENT division. He has received fellowships from both the House Ear Institute and the Bionic Ear Institute (Australia). The esteemed position of ENT surgeon to the Hon. Prime Minister of India was held by J. M. Hans. In 2005, Shri APJ Abdul Kalam, a former honourable president of India, presented him with the Padma Shri. He is a member of the Ali Yaver Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped’s Executive Committee in Mumbai, the Central Coordination Committee for Prevention of Deafness in the Indian Ministry of Health, and the Executive Council of the National Institute of Speech & Hearing in Mysore.
