Dr. Rajesh Sharma graduated from AIIMS, New Delhi, with an MS in general surgery and an MCh in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. He received Ventricular Assist Device training in Berkeley, USA. He completed his fellowship in paediatric cardiovascular surgery at May Ann Knight Hospital for Children in Miami, Florida, and Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. Since he began practising in 1991 (over 30 years of experience), Dr. Sharma has done more than 20,000 cardiac surgeries for a variety of congenital and adult heart conditions. His area of expertise is the surgical management of difficult congenital cardiac conditions. Up until 2001, Dr. Sharma served as an adjunct professor with teaching and training responsibilities at AIIMS, New Delhi. From 2001 until 2007, he served as Senior Consultant for Heart Surgery at Narayana Hrudayalaya in Bangalore. He has supervised numerous cardiac surgery residents who are now working on their own in various parts of India and the subcontinent. Dr Sharma also has a number of publications to his name.
