The role of technological advancements in neurosciences has revolutionized critical treatment processes like deep brain…
Dr. Rajesh Ahlawat is a well known name in the field of Robotic Surgery for kidney transplantation. In fact, he pioneered the world’s first Robotic Kidney Transplant using regional Hupothermia technique along with Prof. Mani Menon’s team from the USA. He has been instrumental in establishing four kidney transplant programs in India. At present Dr. Rajesh Ahlawat is associated with Medanta Hospital as the Group Chairman for Institute of Urology and Robotic Surgery. Which is a chain of multi specialty hospitals with its headquarters located in Gurgaon, India. It was founded in 2009. The hospital has a cultural environment and is the first choice for international patients coming to India. The hospital is loaded with a bunch of latest technology and has state of the art infrastructure. Robotic Kidney Transplantation uses robotic support to perform the transplantation. It requires a higher degree of training and experience. The main advantage of robotic transplantation over traditional transplantation is that a much smaller incision is made in order to remove the kidney. The robot consists of two mechanical arms one of the arms holds a magnifying 3D camera, which provides a high definition magnified 3-D view of the surgical site. While the other arm has the surgical instrument attached to it and performs the transplantation. However, both the mechanical arms are controlled by the surgeon. The advantage of robotic transplantation is that it reduces the chance of complications, stay at hospitals, pain and infections.
