Dr. Parvathi Unninayar Iyer is currently the Principal Director of Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI), New Delhi. In the field of paediatric cardiac critical care, she is a pioneer. She had a key role in establishing the Paediatric programme in 1995, the country’s first integrated programme to do so. Her training in paediatric and neonatal intensive care took place in the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney after she received her medical degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Dr Iyer has over 39 years of total experience and she was the first pediatric cardiac intensivist in the country and started the first dedicated pediatric cardiac ICU in Northern India at FEHI in 1995. Not just that, Dr Iyer was also the first to generate internationally comparable outcomes in neonatal and infant cardiac surgery and surgery for complex congenital heart disease.
